Move over Delia. Take heed Nigella. Lorraine Pascale is the 'face' on the block. Many are calling her BBC's new home baking heroine and they just could be right. Lorraine Pascale's bakery program 'Baking Made Easy' served up January has a title out of the same name, that is tinging the till so hard, she's roosting at the top there with Jamie and his '30 Minute Meals' according to Amazon.uk.com best selling listings.
Once quite literally a face of Verscae in the 90's, patisserie chef Lorraine's life story so far is as intriguing as her Parmesan Lollipop creation. Born to parents of West Indian decent, she was adopted at 18 months by a white family, fostered out at 7 when her mother got ill, and after eventually returning back home, went on to win a scholarship receiving her education at a boarding school in Devon. At 16, she was spotted by the same agent who found Naomi Campbell. But literally the icing on her now celebrated cupcake was not that. Lorraine Pascale became the first black British model to appear on the cover of American Elle. Today though she's scaling new heights on Whisky and Chili Tiger Prawns. The model baker who loves her British cheese especially Stinking Bishop, Cheddar and Stilton has in her 256 page book apparently taken the stress out of baking.
Little Daisy's unlikely friend scoffs her pancakes. When she told her parents that a big purple Rhino had walked right in and taken a chomp, they were too busy to listen. Problem was, Daisy was right. The local zoo had lost a charge.
From Anna Kemp the author of 'Dogs Don't Do Ballet', 'Rhino's Don't Eat Pancakes' will be released on April 28th just in time for Easter. But before then, older brothers and sisters can snack on 'Fantastic Frankie and the Brain Drain Machine' her first young fiction title which was released in paperback form January 2010.
'Dogs Don't Do Ballet' was a smash hit. Children simply loved Biff the adorable puppy who had dreams of becoming a ballerina, tutu and all. All Biff had going for him though was one little girl in Miss. Polly's ballet class who had a sneaking suspicion that her dog was actually a prima ballerina. The book aimed at reading level of between 4-8 year olds, was a Roald Dahl 2010 Funniest Book for Children Aged 6 and under category nominee. The prize set up in honor of the late author's comic writing for children, seeks to celebrate books that make children laugh. More importantly another aim of the prize is to encourage families to read together and discover the pleasure of humours books, which in turn reinforces the message that reading together promotes family well being.
Taking It Home quite literally is this gem of a find. 'Shapely Ankle Preferred' by Francessca Beauman published yesturday, is billed as a lively history and development of Lonely Hearts ads, the first one as it goes having been published in 1695, sandwiched between ads for a cobbler's apprentice, an Arabian Stallion and a second hand bed.
Today, all 3 would be in the same ad. Header 'Soft Lips'.
